There is no doubt about the elegance and prettiness matte lipstick gives. A
matte lipstick always works wonder on full face makeup or minimal makeup. In as
much as a great matte lipstick can turn your makeup look from just simple to
stunning, a proper application is required. Now, in dry weather condition (like
we are experiencing in Nigeria now), we still want to rock our matte lipstick.
Knowing how dry matte lipsticks can get, we need even a proper application to
ease the dryness throughout the day. Here are some (personal) steps to get a
flawless matte lips this dry seasons. Works for me!
EXFOLIATING YOUR LIPS
If you want to have nice looking
lips after you apply your matter lipstick and also enjoy wearing your matte
lipstick, it is imperative to exfoliate your lips. A good Lip Scrub will do you
good; there are lots of them in the beauty market. Sugar mixed with honey an
olive oil also works, just make sure you rinse well. (I exfoliate twice a week).
MOISTURIZE/HYDRATE
I moisturize with a non-glossy
lip balm before I wear my matte lipstick. I consider this step as a base and
priming for the dry coats of matte lipstick. When I moisturize, the matte lipstick glides smoothly and my lips doesn’t feels so dry underneath the matte
lipstick too.
APPLY YOUR MATTER LIPSTICK/LIP
STAIN
Choose and carefully apply your
lipstick/lip stain in any shade you desire as long as it works with your skin
tone (not just two simple swipes)
Because lipstick is usually the
last makeup you apply on your face, you don’t want to get sloppy with matte
lipstick. Sure you wouldn’t want to find out why not.
OK HERE IS WHERE I DIFFER WITH
WHAT OTHER MAKEUP ARTISTS/BLOGGERS THINK!
-Most makeup artist/bloggers say “stick
to nude shades” but I ask, have you seen a black sister with nude matte
lipstick before? Have you? If you have, please how did she look? Sure doesn’t
look pretty I guess! Well, whatever works for you!
-Again some makeup
artist/bloggers say line you lips before applying your matte lipstick. Really?
Come on! No matter how much you apply a liner or the shade, the matte lipstick
will cover it up. So why waste your time doing that. Please experiment with any
shade of matte lipstick (except nude) and tell me the result.
TRICKS
Here are some tricks to help you
wear/remove your matte lipstick/stain:
Ø Apply with a lip brush for better precision and
clean finish;
Ø Add double coats for long lasting effect;
Ø Blot you lips after application to avoid cakey and
over-dry looking lips (you can blot with non-transferring paper towel).
Ø In the process of blotting, you can also prevent
the matte lipstick from transferring to your teeth.
Ø Remove your matte lipstick by applying a generous
coat of Vaseline to your lips before wiping.
Ok now you can go ahead and get
pretty and polished.
